WHAT IS THE GERMAN HISTORY ARCHIVE?

There is still much unpublished German original material from the period 1920s to 1940s.
Hundreds of unpublished or rare films on the occasion, as well as thousands of original photographs from politics and the war zones, are owned by the German History Archive.
Now we have begun to digitize this historically valuable material piece by piece and publish
it in the best possible quality and make it accessible to all those interested in history.
History is to be experienced impartially and neutrally.

The time of the Second World War, and even before that, was an era
in which media and documentaries were enormously important.
On the one hand, cameras were affordable for both civilians and soldiers. Above all, politics knew how to use the new possibilities of film
and photography for themselves and their propaganda.
However, many photos and also footage from the time before 1945
was never published, stayed with collectors or was never discovered.
Over the years, new and unknown material is emerging.
However, digitization and processing are both time-consuming and cost-intensive. And so it will continue to take many years to provide
this extensive material of history-interested online.
It is not about taking a side or position of the former war opponents.
This material is intended to make the picture and the events of the
period between 1933-45 in Europe even clearer.
